«Though Morocco, like all developing countries, is facing some crucial development challenges, it is aware of the need to protect the environment and, to this end, to adopt a gradual, comprehensive policy that includes economic measures as well as outreach activities, with the help of our regional and international partners. I therefore ask the government to draft a comprehensive, national environmental charter with the aim of protecting the country’s natural resources and nature reserves as part of a sustainable development policy. The charter should also aim to safeguard historical and cultural sites and monuments since the environment is the common heritage of the nation. It implies a collective duty to preserve it for the sake of current and future generations.»
